Herbalife, A Sponsor of Nutrition and Life

Herbalife sponsors various athletes such as soccer champion Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo grew up in a family that loved soccer and would play in the streets with his friends. He also trained at a soccer club that his father worked at. Ronaldo’s joy of playing and being part of a team, as well as his upbringing is what sparked his dream of becoming a professional soccer player. It wasn’t until later in life that he began to realize the importance of nutrition, and this is why Ronaldo is partnered with Herbalife. He believes his body is a weapon and that recovery after training and games is especially important. Ronaldo is also a father and says he takes great pleasure in giving his son advice and being there for him. He encourages his son to follow his dreams. For Ronaldo, following his dreams and the career he has built, has been about pushing himself past the limits. He feels he is in a good place physically and will continue to play the game he loves.

Mark Hughes, the creator of Herbalife, began selling a weight management product from the trunk of his car in 1980. It was well known that his creation of such products stemmed from his mother’s weight loss concerns. Hughes attributed her premature death to an unhealthy approach to weight loss, and he developed a company goal of changing the nutritional habits of the world. The first Herbalife product was a protein shake designed to help people manage their weight.

1985 was the year the company was labeled, by Inc., the fastest-growing private company in America due to its increased revenue of thousands to millions in just a five-year period. In 1988, Herbalife began to expand internationally. In 1995 the company launched a line of personal care products including fragrances and facial cleansers, and by 1996 international sales accounted for more than half of the company’s revenue. Today, the company is privately owned by J.H. Whitney & Company and Golden Gate Capital, which they acquired in 2002, just a few years after the death of Mark Hughes. In April 2018, the company announced that it had changed its name from Herbalife Ltd. to Herbalife Nutrition Ltd.
