Micheal Lacey is a famous American mathematician who has received many prestigious awards including The Salem Prize and he also received a Guggenheim Fellowship. He also became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2012.
He is currently a mathematics professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Previously he worked at Indiana University from 1989 until 1996. During his time at the university, he received the National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Prior to accomplishing his many achievements in the mathematics field, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received his B.S. He later went on the attain his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
His professional career is indeed impressive landing him positions with Louisianna State University at Baton Rouge, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Indiana University at Bloomington, and finally the University of Georgia in Atlanta.
Some of his work which is of notable interest includes his thesis probability in Banach spaces, harmonic analysis which was of particular importance, and ergodic theory. Once he began his post doctorate work at Louisiana State University, he and one of his colleges submitted their proof of the central limit theorem.
This work garnered a great deal of attention for himself and his colleague Walter Phillip who had also helped to oversee his doctoral degree work. He was given the National Science Foundations Postdoctoral Fellowship later when he attended Indiana University in which time he studied bilinear Hilbert transform.
His work on the transform earned him and Christoph Thiele the Salem Prize in 1996 which was a result of them solving the transform.
He earned his Guggenheim Award when he began working at Georgia Institue of Technology. He and his colleague Xiaochun Li worked together closely to earn them both the achievement in 2004.
The National Science Foundation has supported him over the last several years to help him further his research and important work in the field of mathematics. Other institutions have also offered their support to his work including the Fulbright Foundation and the Simmons Foundation.
His work over the years has proved to be incredibly beneficial for the science and mathematics communities and he continues to contribute a vast amount of knowledge and experience to the field today. He still teaches the brightest students at Georgia Tech and passes on his vast knowledge and expertise in the field to students who are hungry to learn and make their own mark on the field.
